DIY Wall Coat Rack

Do you hate falling over your kids jackets and bags when you walk into your house? Check out this DIY Wall Coat Rack my husband and I made together for less than $7!

DIY Coat Rack

Yes, I made the bag too!

Our neighbor was able to score some great wooden pallets for a few DIY projects she had going on at her house.  We were thrilled when she allowed us to take off with one.

Taking the pallet apart proved to be more difficult than we thought.  We were trying to preserve the rustic nails on each to reuse for extra hanging support.  We succeeded, but only after breaking two of our top choice boards.  For other projects my husband has resorted to cutting the boards off with a skill saw instead.  Those nails look great up close but really weren’t worth all that effort and damage.

After we removed the board, I marked the location of each knob with a sharpie so he could drill the holes for me. (He is so sweet! Love it when he does all the hard stuff for me!)

Once he finished drilling the holes, I attempted to put the knobs on and he took over again… (Yes, we totally did this project together…. can’t you tell?)  Okay, so I at least got to pick the placement of the knobs and the placement on the wall… he did the rest. All under my supervision, of course. (smile)

We completed this project for less than $7!

Each of the knobs were less than one dollar each, except for the one in the middle that I splurged on for almost three bucks!

What is your favorite DIY project you and your spouse have completed together?

  • I know what you mean. I hate seeing jackets draped over every chair in the house. My husband put a coat rack up. It does help.

  • This is really cute!!! I’d say the most creative use of crates, etc. was when we were newly weds, we had a spool table, and make shelves out of crates. It was fun we couldn’t afford much!

  • I love seeing pallets used today. YEARS ago our company could not give them away today people want them. This would be so cool with old vintage hooks or handles. GREAT IDEAL

  • Great way to repurpose wood and random leftover knobs from other projects. Maybe check out your local Habitat for Humanity store if you need any parts.
