Unfortunately Valentine’s Day is during “tax season” and that is the bane of my existence for many reasons, but most of all the fact that I have almost NO TIME from Feb 1st through May 15th. šŸ™‚ But it is my job

  • We have what my children have taken to calling a “dark dinner” (aka candlelit dinner).

Back when we had a house full of toddlers and babies, going out on a major eating out holiday was not at ALL appealing to me. Even though it was supposed to be a couples night and many look at it as a nice evening out, there were too many obstacles in the way (for me) to have that be a romantic, enjoyable evening. I had a spontaneous idea instead. I got out the “fancy” dishes (aka not the plastic kiddie plates), stemware, place mats, tablecloth, and candles. I made a nice but simple “multi” course meal (aka salad, then pasta, then dessert) and the kids and I dressed fancy. When my husband came home the kids met him at the door, giggling, and telling him he had to change into his suit. It became a loved family tradition and we have this “dark dinner” every Valentine’s for the past 8-ish years now.
