No Mixer Chocolate Heart Cookies for Valentine’s Day!

All opinions expressed herein are my own!

When I started homeschooling I read an article from a seasoned homeschool mom that suggested to always keep items in your pantry that your kids could make on their own.  Whether it was their favorite canned soup, oatmeal packets, or even cake mix!  Cake mix is one of the first things a child can learn to bake on their own, because the instructions are so simply provided on the box.  It’s pretty genius, but I do have one more tip to go along with this.

Yes, you should always have cake mix on hand that your kids can make on their own, but even before they learn how to make the cake on their own, they can use the box cake mix to make their own cookies!

To make cookies from a box of cake mix, all your children need is one egg and a few tablespoons of melted butter.  They can easily stir the ingredients together without using a mixer!  Share this recipe with your littlest ones this Valentine’s Day.  They will be so amazed that they were able to crack the egg, stir the batter, and roll the dough all by themselves! Let it be their gift to you!

Ingredients:

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

In a medium/large mixing bowl, stir together cake mix, egg, and melted butter until fully incorporated.

Dust hands with confectioners sugar (to prevent sticking) and roll spoonfuls of dough into balls. Place dough balls onto cookie sheet 2 inches apart.

Bake for 12 minutes.

Gently press 1/2 tbsp sprinkles onto the top of each cookie as soon as they are removed from the oven OR sprinkle cookie platter with sprinkles before serving.

I’ve been baking a lot with my granddaughters, but most recipes are difficult for 9 year old Addie. This is right up her alley. I can’t wait to try it.
