My most memorable Christmas gift was a sled. My dad had decided to go back to college when I was about 10 to get a degree so we were flat broke. We got a tree from our woods, strung popcorn, made construction paper ornaments, it was Christmas on the cheap. All he could afford was a pair of these $5 plastic saucer sleds from Kmart for my sister and me, wrapped in newspaper. But it was the BEST gift ever because after we opened them, he took us out to the dam where there was a giant hill and spent the entire afternoon with us sledding, he even got some rope and pulled us around. It was so much fun. We used those sleds so many times that winter. It was just the best.

The most memorable Christmas gift from my childhood actually wasn’t for me. One year right before Christmas we had a pony that was a family pet that died and my younger brother was very upset. I was given a doll by my grandmother. The first one I ever had, at 17 years old. My abusive nightmare of a mother beat me over it, badly and tried to steal it from me.
